Blood & Bone

 all lyrics by Joanna Wallfisch

1. The Ship

In the breeze we fly our kites

And in the waves we dive,

In our dreams we set our sights

To love each day we are alive.

And we throw up our voices in the clouds

So they can fly,

Fill each raindrop with choices,

Quench our thirst with why not try.

You and me go hand in hand

And we also go alone,

'Cause we believe and we understand

That on the road we'll find our home.

Out of the splinters of my broken heart

I built this ship

To sail into a bright new start,

With lessons learned,

Some bridges burned,

And a tail wind in my heart.

3.  The Shadow Of Your Ghost

The shadow of your ghost walked over me,

Leaving a trail of shivers,

in place of memory,

Now nothing can restore that reverie,

Since the shadow of your ghost walked over me.

You counted every moment that we spent

Like a poor man counting every last

miserable cent.

You chose where we would go,

and so we went.

Yet you wanted to have space,

be more independant.

Oh the times you said you loved me

we conditional at best,

And if I wanted more of thee

I'd be your most unwelcomed guest.

So let me tell you why I'm hurting,

there's nothing more to hide,

You break into my dreams at night

and ride between my thighs,

You say that you enjoy the tension

between us when we meet,

It satisfies your narcissism,

til your ego is repleat.

Well I don't care for you,

or your lonely cold heart,

I just wish that I knew

how it would end before the start.

The years we spent together we not bad,

But for a hairline fracture,

breaking everythig we had,

We dressed ourselves in armour,

iron clad,

And declared a war on love,

trading happiness for sad,

Now you want to make it better,

tell me it will be OK,

So I reach out for your hand

for you to push my hand away.

So let me tell you why I'm hurting,

there's nothing more to hide,

You break into my dreams at night and

ride between my thighs,

You say that you enjoy the tension

between us when we meet,

It satisfies your narcissism,

til your ego is repleat.

Well I don't care for you,

or your lonely cold heart,

I just wish that I knew

how it would end before the start.

5. Anymore

You don’t miss me, so why do I call you,

Why do I call you anymore?

You don’t want me, so why do I need you,

Why do I need you anymore?

You don’t love me, you’ve forgotten to,

You’ve forgotten that you did before,

Now two strangers staring blankly,

Feeling nothing anymore.

You don’t ask me so why do I question,

Why do I question you anymore?

You won’t tell me, so why do I tell you,

Why do I tell you anymore?

I don’t know you, maybe I never did,

Maybe I never will anymore.

Just two strangers staring blankly,

Feeling nothing anymore.

You don’t see me, so why do I stand here,

Why do I stand here anymore?

You’re like winter, your heart has frozen,

And I’m waiting for the thaw.

I can’t change you and you can’t change me,

So now we’re standing on either side of the door,

Just two strangers staring blankly,

Feeling nothing anymore.

7. Summer Solstice

The summer solstice rolls around but once a year,

It marks the longest day

before the shortest night appears,

It's been three thousand, six hundred and fifty days

Since we first kissed under a full moon solstice haze,

And I still love you, I always will,

Even though I left you I think of this still.

Days go by, we sleep and eat and laugh sometimes,

We make our choices, mark our words,

then change our bloody minds,

We may remember what we dream at night,

or just forget,

And we break our hearts out searching for a life

we won't regret.

But I still love you, I always will,

Even though I left you I think of this still.

We were meant to be just as the skies and sea,

And as the earth moves, you move with me.

But I just did not see love's simplicity,

Though in my heart you have always been with me.

And I still love you, I always will,

Even though I left you I think of this still.

8. Bo Ba Bo

Where is this going? How did we get here?

When will we know that there is nothing more to fear?

Which road will take us, and how steep will it be?

What if we misread the signs,

will we get lost, will we be free?

"Take my hand", she said, looking into the mirror,

"Make your plans ahead, just remember to breath,

"If you wanna lay your head on somebodies shoulder,

Rest assured you'll find everything that you need"

Bo ba bo, bo ba bo bo ba,

Bo ba bo, bo ba bo bo ba,

Bo ba bo, bo ba bo bo ba,

Bo ba bo, bo ba ba bwee da da.

A drop in the ocean, a change in the wind,

The ship has not disappeared,

it's just sailing where the river bends,

So ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies

A tear blossomed on her cheek

As she stared deep into her eyes.

11. Runaway Child

I’m a runaway child,

Buckle up shoes and button down shirt,

Oh I wanna run wild,

I wanna scrape my knees and eat some dirt,

I’m climbing out my window,

On a rope I made with my parent’s sheets,

Just like cartoon people,

I’m gonna make my home on the cartoon streets.

I’m gonna steal a red car,

Skin a panther and wrap it round the wheel,

Remove the rear view mirror,

Put on my lipstick just by the way it feels,

I’ll roll down all the windows,

Forget my seatbelt, who needs one anyway?

I’m going where the wind blows,

I’m not a fugitive, I’m just a runaway.

I’ll ignore every road sign,

X marks the spot if you’re looking for the key,

I’ll trade this ride for more time,

And go on foot, who cares when you’re running free?

Let go of all this baggage,

Be weightless as a butterfly in spring,

Or a bird without a cage,

Or a perfect diamond without a ring.

‘Cause I’m a runaway child,

And though I’ll go alone I gotta tell you

I can’t forget your smile,

D’ya wanna come with me, make this a road for two?

Leave all your whys behind,

Forget what if, who knows, or what will be,

Just bring your restless heart and your open mind,

Climb out your window and run away with me.

Run away, Run away, Run away, (repeat)

‘Cause I’m a runaway child… (repeat)

Yes, I’m a runaway child,

Buckle up shoes and button down shirt,

Oh I wanna run wild,

I wanna scrape my knees and eat some dirt.

13. I'm A Traveler

When you went to get your coffee

You said you'd be a little while,

I didn't guess you meant forever,

I didn't see the tears behind your smile.

I asked the neighbours if they'd seen you,

If you told them where you'd gone.

No-one knew you planned on leaving,

Least I was not the only one.

I'm gonna climb the ancient tower

And signal from afar,
Sending smoke across the valley

To find out where you are.

You left a post-it on the mirror,

Nothing but your shopping list.

Well maybe I should have cooked dinner

More than once since we first kissed,

'Cause now I'll never know what happened,

Unless I follow your every trace,

Could you at least leave me a bread-crumb,

I know I won't forget your face.

I'm gonna climb the ancient tower,

and signal from afar,

Sending smoke across the valley

to find out where you are.

Your wandering heart was the unraveller,

Now we're apart I am a traveler.

I left the house without my suitcase,
Just some pocket change and keys,

I didn't guess I'd leave forever,

I didn't see the wood for all those trees.

My only focus was on finding

What I thought you'd left behind,

I hadn't planned on time rewinding,

Or choosing heart-song over mind.

I'm gonna climb the ancient tower,

and signal from afar,

Sending smoke across the valley

to find out where you are.

Your wandering heart was the unraveller,

Now we're apart I am a traveler.

2.  Road Trip

I'm going on a road trip,

riding down a well worn path

I change my background stories

every time somebody asks,

I have worn so many masks.

Winding down the windows,

 letting in the breeze,

Breathing in the ashes

of the burning red-wood trees,

Time moves parallel with motion,

it's the travellers disease,

We are all escapees.

This california dreaming

burns a shadow in the clouds,

The forests, they are screaming

as the sunlight burns and fowls,

People running from their houses

as the fires drown the walls,

All their photographs are melted,

leaving memoires of coal,

Not a trace left to unfold.

There was the lady in the wheelchair,

Her mirage turned all too real,

As she rolled along the highway,

Waiting for a car her life to steal.

I can't imagine how she feels.

And the father in the campsite,

Gives his child whiskey-rye,

"Tip that bottle son, that's right,

'Til you see the starry sky".

What a fateful lullaby.

So now I see the world through different eyes

as time slows down.

Forgetful dreams, make no more compromise,

This road knows no bounds.

I'm going on a road trip,

riding down a well worn path,

I change my background story

every time somebody asks,

I have worn so many masks

4. Dandelions

Dry your eyes on my sleeve,

Take my time, it's yours to keep.

Fill this cup and bite this bread,

I'll be the dreams that fill your head.

So let's get lost, and let's be found

Beneath the waves that break the ground,

And make no sound with our kisses

Dissolving in the sea.

Let me light your cigarette,

And be this evening's silhouette,

Untie your shoes and feel the sand

Between your toes, now take me hand

And let's get lost, and let's be found

Beneath the waves that break the ground,

And make no sound with our kisses

Dissolving in the sea.

A seagull's cry can be heard

across miles of sky,

I'm feeling free as a bird

since we made these wings to fly,

We picked up sticks and tied them onto our

Shoulder-blades and arms,

We helpd them wide til the winds bloew strong,

Now we're floating dandelions,

floating dandelions.

Quietly, secretly,

I made a wish caught on the wind,

A childish game, a fairytale,

You be the wind I'll be your sail

And let's get lost, and let's be found

Beneath the waves that break the ground,

And make no sound with our kisses

Dissolving in the sea.

A seagull's cry can be heard

across miles of sky,

I'm feeling free as a bird

since we made these wings to fly,

We picked up sticks and tied them onto our

Shoulder-blades and arms,

We helpd them wide til the winds bloew strong,

Now we're floating dandelions, floating dandelions....

6. Lullaby Girl

She runs, she laughs, she plays, she dances,

Willow trees sway when she passes,

Her dreams are black as real molasses,

And her shoes are ruby red.

Her tears have filled up seven oceans,

Her heart the home of all emotions,
Her mind is free from any notions,

And she likes to play guitar.

How far do you think she travelled,

Over land, over sea and sky,

Before all her hopes unravelled

And her name became a lullaby?

The hills turned into mountains for her

To climb, to see the whole world better,

The stars shone brightly in her honour,

As the sun eclipsed the earth.

How far do you think she travelled,

Over land, over sea and sky,

Before all her hopes unravelled

And her name became a lullaby?

Bears and creatures built with antlers

Welcomed her as she meandered

Into the woods marked "keep out ramblers!"

But oh, she could not read.

Deep into the woods she followed

The scent of dreams she'd begged and borrowed,

She knelt down by a stream and swallowed

The clearest waters there.

How far do you think she travelled,

Over land, over sea and sky,

Before all her hopes unravelled

And her name became a lullaby?

9. Choices

Let’s not talk anymore love,

it’s late and I’m tired.

The sun’s long since set,

the day’s long retired,

And the witching hour closes in fast.

No more words after dark love, there’s nothing to gain

By dancing in circles

we’ll end up insane,

And the sky’s dark enough as it is.

We had two choices,

to make love or make war.

With the heat in our voices we could keep each other warm.

Leave the battle til the dawn, I don't wanna fight no more.

No more tears in the glass love, these rags won’t be wrung,

Now the floor is a pool of the hurt that’s been sung,

Blinded by bitters and salt.

Spit that gum from your mouth love, and chew on these words,

No-one can be perfect,

no cream without curds,

This is neither, and both, of our fault.

We had two choices,

to make love or make war.

With the heat in our voices we could keep each other warm.

Leave the battle til the dawn, I don't wanna fight no more.

Beyond the clouds the sun still shines,

Above the silt clear water runs,

Above the fire heat rises fast,

Beyond a prayer thy will be done.

Behind this wall a garden blooms,

Beneath this shell love’s sweet perfumes,

Beneath these tears I smile for you,

Though nothing can be done.

We had two choices,

to make love or make war.

With the heat in our voices

we could keep each other warm.

Leave the battle til the dawn,

I don't wanna fight no more.

Leave your mask on the table,

put your weapons down,

Let’s step out from these trenches

and find a new ground

Where we don’t have to watch out for mines…

12. The Truth

If I were to tell you the truth

then I would say, I love you, I do

But I've been hiding behind silence and sighs,
Shading this love from view,

Because I'm scared that if you knew,

I'd lose you.

If I were to open my mind

Like a door you could walk through,

You'd find rivers and streams

leading to dreams,

Dreams I could share with you,

But I'ms cared that if I do,

I'd lose you.

I don't wanna talk in clichés,

I don't wanna speak in tongues,

I wanna jump right off this cliff-face,

'cause you only live once,

Take a risk and be too honest,

Lay my heart out on the floor,

You have inspired me to love you,

I couldn't ask for any more.

So, if I were to tell you the truth,

Then I would say, I love you, I do.

And I hope you understand

Love's not something can be planned,

It's just something that happens to you,

So why be scared, 'cause I think you knew

I love you!

14. Blood and Bone

Even after all is said and done,
We set our sights onto the sun,
and sail this ship into the horizon.

So the waves are high, the winds are strong, The sirens sing their deadly song,
We’re out to sea, and yet we belong.

This ship has sails made of blood and bone And it knows the way home.

You can break my heart and steal away,

My inner child still runs and plays,
As if I never knew the pain of love.

Time is but a breeze that passes by,
I see the shore in my mind’s eye,
It’s certain as the tides fall and rise.

This ship has sails made of blood and bone And it knows the way home...
